“Our crash bobbins are designed and proven to reduce damage to your bike!”

Crash bobbins where initially intended for use on race tracks; made of Nylon, other hard plastics and sometimes aluminium.

They were designed to allow the bike to slide fast and far in order to get it off the track and avoid collision with other passing bikes. This result is not ideal for road bikes.

Cane Industries was formed in 2010 specializing in the manufacture, sale and fitment of our very own carefully engineered crash bobbins for road bikes.

The Materials used have been meticulously selected based on research and the design has been carefully tailored to provide maximum strength where necessary yet catering for designed failure points which have been tried and tested.

Cane Industries Crash Bobbins deliberately wear down in the event of a slide, unlike any other crash bobbin on the market, resulting in the sliding speed of the bike being substantially reduced, therefore minimizing the chance of collision with obstructions such as oncoming traffic, kerbing and the drop of a mountain pass.

THE MATERIAL...

Our preference is to machine our bobbins out of a billet of 50mm plastic, unlike most of bobbins on the market that are injection moulded. Injection moulded crash bobbins are much cheaper to manufacture however, the injection moulding process changes the characteristics of the plastic making it very hard and brittle and ultimately causing the bobbins to either be too hard to slow the bike down or snap off on impact.

Injection moulded crash bobbins may be cheaper, but they don’t work!

MOUNTING BOLTS...

Use of the correct strength bolts is crucial. Weaker bolts can break with sudden impact and stronger bolts don’t absorb the strain of the impact, they transfer the forces to the frame or engine casing, often causing irreparable damage.

SPACERS...

A combination of stainless steel, aluminium and Nylon spacers are used to create a calculated ‘failure point’ on the crash bobbin assembly. We manipulate this point to allow the bobbin to bend in order to provide maximum protection!

DISTANCE PLATES...

As far as possible we avoid using distance plates, but in some cases we are forced to mount the crash bobbins on distance plates to match up the gaps in the fairings. For these distance plates we laser cut 8-12mm 1068 grade aluminium which is in fact superior to aircraft grade 1034. We use this for maximum strength with minimal additional weight.

AESTHETICS...

We have two sizes of crash bobbins to offer slight variety to clients, but aesthetics were not considered the critical design feature. We do have a few sets on competition winning Concourse d’Elegance bikes that have been hydro dipped, and are doing very well. Like tires, we only manufacture our crash bobbins in black, they don’t have fancy patterns or allen caps to make them look pretty. They are designed to protect your bike and they do, very well.

COST...

There are many areas where we could have reduced costs, but all of them would have compromised the quality of the product. For example; injection moulding could have reduced the cost by two thirds and cheaper bolts would have significantly reduced pricing. Our aim was never to create a cheap product that causes more harm than good.
We are in this to create the best crash bobbins in the world.

ONLINE SHOP...

We have added our best sellers to our online shop, to make the process faster for the bulk of our clients, but just because a set for a specific bike is not there, does not mean that we have nothing to offer.... please give us a call and we can chat. Chances are we have some experience with that model
